About the Acupuncturist Tomomi Tanaka

Tomomi Tanaka is a Licensed Acupuncturist in New York and New Jersey and is Board certified in Oriental Medicine.  She graduated from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York. Tomomi completed externship courses at St. Vincent's Hospital's comprehensive Cancer Center of New York where she gained valuable insight.  She witnessed the various side effects and symptoms that cancer patients experience and how Acupuncture can be utilized to help.  Tomomi was also involved in an internship conducted at the Grand Meridian Clinic, one of the busiest acupuncture centers in New York City's Chinatown.  She had an opportunity to practice under the guidance of Dr. Roger Tsao at the Clinic.  Tomomi gained additional knowledge and experience by participating in a program at the Fortune Society, a nonprofit organization that helps prisoners, ex-offenders, and those facing prison times.  These experiences helped Tomomi confirm her belief that there is a need for accessible and affordable acupuncture treatment.

Tomomi has been practicing Acupuncture and Moxibustion by integrating various methods and techniques with applications based on several theories and teachings from different schools.  The treatment is carefully diagnosed and customized according to each individual's needs and constitution.

Tomomi came to the US from Japan 17 years ago.  She graduated from Sam Houston State University in Texas with a BA in Sociology and Psychology. Shortly thereafter, she moved to New York City where she joined the hotel industry at the World Trade Center site.  Right after the events of 9/11, Tomomi was  involved intensely in human rights movements, which was something she had always wanted to do.  During her involvement with human rights delegations to Central America, Tomomi came to realize the importance of maintaining good health in order to achieve one's goals in life. Around that time, Tomomi began suffering with many health issues after participating in year long peace and anti-war movements.  She realized that modern health care could do little to treat her health condition as a whole. During Tomomi's struggle to improve her health, she was able to experience acupuncture treatment.   The benefits of the treatment were life changing and Tomomi decided to devote herself towards the practice of Oriental Medicine.

Tomomi's purpose is to spread the benefits of acupuncture to as many people as possible.  Her philosophy is that there is happiness where there is good heath, and where there is good health there is inner peace.  True happiness cannot be achieved without the foundation of good health.  The low accessibility to affordable healthcare is one of the fundamental problems in the US today.  New York GrassRoots Acupuncture was created in order to address the current healthcare problem by providing affordable acupuncture treatment.    Tomomi hopes that there will be more acupuncturists who hold these same ideals.
